Deidre N. Hurse PhD., MPA, BSW
Interim Executive Director
Since moving from the Board of Directors in February 2019 to an interim director role at MiCHWA Deidre has led MiCHWA through its transition to a non-profit recognized by the federal government. Deidre currently holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, a Master’s degree in Public Administration, and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
Deidre has worked in health center operations and enabling services and brings over 15 years of experience in the field of HIV/AIDS. She has led initiatives around social determinants of health, inclusion and diversity, and chronic illness and served as a lecturer in the Department of Public Health and Health Sciences at the University of Michigan Flint for 10 years. When asked why she works with CHWs her response was “because relationships matter… CHWs invest in human capital and I believe in investing in them.”
Priscilla Hohmann, MSW
Education and Registry Manager
Priscilla currently serves as the MiCHWA Education and Registry Manager, overseeing all aspects of MICHWA CHW Education, including the MiCHWA CHW Certification Training Program, curricular and webinar development, and CHW education and training promotion. Priscilla holds a Master of Social Work from the U-M School of Social Work, where she focused on clinical practice and health, and a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University with a focus on social justice. Prior to that, Priscilla worked as a service learning director and taught social justice and world religions in secondary schools in the South.
Caylin Rathburn-Smith
MiCHWA Intern
Caylin Rathburn-Smith is a master’s student at the University of Michigan, pursuing dual degrees in social work and public health. She spent her undergraduate career at Michigan State University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in social work, with a minor in bioethics.
Caylin is largely interested in chronic disease management, health literacy, and rare diseases. Her past work has given her the opportunity to explore existing community-wide healthcare initiatives that increase healthcare access for specific populations. Currently, she is an MSW intern for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Child and Adolescent Health Center Program, where she works to sustain school-based health centers throughout the state.
During her undergraduate career, Caylin was the community health intern for Michigan State University’s Office for International Students and Scholars, where she helped the international community navigate the U.S. healthcare system.
Sarah Tresedder
MiCHWA Intern
Sarah Tresedder is currently pursuing two Masters degrees at the University of Michigan in Public Health and Public Policy, concentrating on Environmental Health and Nonprofit Management. As an undergraduate, she attended Michigan State University where she received a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a minor in Environmental Studies.
The intersection of environment and health has always been a passion for Sarah. She spent her gap year between undergraduate and graduate school working for The Sierra Club, the country’s oldest environmental non-profit, doing advocacy work related to the 2018 election and sustainable agriculture. She hopes to work for an environmental non-profit or state government after graduation.
