Education and Workforce

Our Goal

The Education & Workforce Working Group seeks to learn about community health worker education in Michigan and elsewhere in order to make recommendations concerning CHW curriculum, certification, and definition of CHW scope of practice. Last year, the group reviewed certification models from across the US and made recommendations for Michigan’s future governance of CHWs. This year, the group is actively making recommendations about the specifics of CHW education and delivery models in Michigan, including governance.

Why is your working group important for achieving CHW sustainability in Michigan? The Education and Workforce work group provides a safe platform for discussion and decision making regarding the core competencies of a Community Health Worker through the Certification curriculum and the ongoing educational expectations for this profession.

Why are you involved with CHWs? The CHW role is one of the most effective professions at connecting with the most vulnerable populations served in healthcare. The more I can do to help this profession succeed, the greater impact we can have at addressing inequities, and achieving a higher quality of life for all people.
